Map of Moscow lights

Moscow, along with Tokyo, London, New York and Paris, is one of the five most illuminated cities in the world.

The map of Moscow lights is a visualization of lighting in 527075 spots. Each of them represents a street light. When clicking, you can find out when it was set up.

Cartographer Alexander Pronin found necessary data on Mos.ru, designed an impressive visualization and shared the project on Geosemantica hub.

"While I was creating the map, I managed to achieve two main goals – to make the glowing effect and to introduce relation between the size of dots and the scale, – told Alexander. – Each light got its setup year what helped me add a timeline".

The result is a shining interactive map which conveys a feeling of a walk in illuminated night Moscow.
